Georgia High School Cycling League Blog

2015 Leaders Summit

Overview:  The Leaders’ Summit provides the opportunity for participants to learn all about the Georgia League structure and processes, how to start a mountain bike team, how to work with their schools, issues related to liability, and the unique intricacies of working with high school and middle school cyclists.  The primary goal for the Leaders’ Summit is to license adults as new coaches.  The summit is an ideal opportunity for new and seasoned coaches to share thoughts and opinions; it is the perfect environment to get charged up for the coming season!

Specific Instructions:  Those interested in attaining a NICA Ride Leader License can participate in the Saturday one-day program while those seeking a NICA Head or Assistant Coach License are required to attend both days.  Returning licensed coaches who have already completed MTB 101 and who are seeking continuing education credit may attend Sunday’s discussions worth 6 credit hours.  In addition to securing appropriate first aid training and passing a background check, an online exam must be taken following the summit to satisfy the licensing requirements.  For more info on the coach licensing requirements, please visit http://www.nationalmtb.org/coaches-license-program/

What’s Included?  Participation includes lunch and snacks, copies of both the NICA Coaches Manual and Teaching Mountain Bike Skills Manual and an opportunity to meet and ride with great individuals who are all interested in working with youth.  Bring your bike, helmet & appropriate riding gear.
