Board of Directors

Dan Brooks, Board President: Dan’s relationship with cycling started at a young age with the freedom provided by an orange Schwinn Stingray with ape hanger handle bars and a sweet banana seat. Since cycling opportunities were not part of the curriculum at his elementary and high schools, Dan moved into more traditional scholastic sports for a time, but retained an interest in mountain biking and whitewater kayaking as a way to see more of the great outdoors. After high school, Dan increased his hours on the bike, both mountain and road, throughout college and law school. Although never a competitive racer, Dan has been drawn to many different styles of riding and just finished a cross-country road ride covering about 3,500 miles in 31 days this past May.

Dan holds a J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School and practiced as an attorney with King & Spalding and for American Tower Corporation (NYSE – AMT). He now lives in Atlanta with his wife and three young boys and is excited to bring his passion for all things bicycle to the Georgia league.

Kenny Griffin, Executive Director: Kenny started his lifelong affair with cycling as a junior racer, competing in races when he was just 9 years old. He continued to ride and race for years until he forged his mountain biking passion into a career.

In 2009, Kenny and his wife founded Chain Buster Productions, an event production company offering a variety of race events and series exclusively for mountain bikers and endurance athletes. Under Kenny’s leadership, Chain Buster became an industry leading event production and timing solutions company appealing to a wide range of racers and participants.

Prior to Chain Buster Productions, Kenny proved himself to be an excellent businessman, developing and managing operations for multiple companies, growing them into successful multi-state operations. Kenny is excited to bring his business development and operations management skills to the Georgia League. He brings a unique perspective to the  team as an experienced student-rider, racer, and event promoter. He understands all the components required to build a successful event and deliver the experience to fulfill the vision of  the Leagues  5 core principles.

In 2013, Kenny was instrumental in helping co-launch the Georgia Interscholastic Cycling League. He has helped grow the league to over 65 teams and an over 980 student athletes in 2019. Kenny’s passion for cycling is unwavering and he wants to instill the same love for cycling he grew up with in today’s youth. “Our youth deserve the opportunity to learn about and participate in our programs.”

When he’s not running an event, or riding a bike, he can be found paddle boarding or lounging around a lake with his wife Nicole, son Lanier, and daughter Olivia.

Dan Thornton, Board Member: Dan’s bio TBD

Neil Ortkiese, Board Member:  Neil’s love for mountain biking began in 2012 when, on a leap of faith, his wife gave him his first bike. He sleuthed out a trail and tried it out; he was instantly hooked and never looked back. His work with the Sope Creek Composite Mountain Biking Team began in 2016. In 2017, he became a NICA certified coach. Neil is also involved with the Boy Scouts of America as an Adult Leader. Outside of mountain biking, his hobbies include: SCUBA diving, working on his mountain bike, spending time with family.

Neil holds a BA from Northern Illinois University. He is a partner and acting consultant with Epic Brokers, based in California.

Eddie O’Dea, Board Member: Eddie O‘Dea is an accomplished endurance mountain bike racer, coach and event director. He works, lives and plays with bicycles. His racing career began with cross country, but soon evolved into a focus on endurance. With a taste of success in the long distance races, Eddie began to push his limits and has since taken on sixteen solo 24 hour races with many podiums along the way.

When not on the bike, Eddie is a race director, professional bike fitter and technique instructor as well as a marketing representative for Ergon. Eddie is the co-owner of 55nine Performance in Atlanta, Georgia.  As a member of NICA’s Honorary Board, he is committed to the vision and success of NICA.

Chad Hayes, Board Member:  Chad Hayes is the Controller for Hayes Automotive with 5 locations in Lawrenceville, Oakwood, Baldwin and Toccoa – selling Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, RAM, Chevrolet, GMC, Buick and Cadillac. He is a NICA Certified Head Coach for the Hall County-Prima Tappa HS/Middle School MTB Team and a Founding/Board Member of the Prima Tappa Athletic Club. Chad is an avid mountain and road racer who loves spending time with his family, Wife – Lisa and daughters – Molly and Ellie, in the outdoors.

Chad enjoys promoting healthy habits and hobbies, especially to kids. He believes in cycling advocacy as a way to reverse the obesity rate in America especially in children. “We need to give them a fitness hobby that they can continue to enjoy even after they become adults.”

Darius Farrokhi, League Photographer and Head Coach:  Darius is a mountain biking and photography enthusiast. He and his family joined the Georgia League in its inaugural season. Darius has traveled and toured on his bike through Europe and other countries. He fell in love with cycling before Mountain Biking was introduced to the public and enjoys cycling in all its styles of riding.

As Head Coach of the Galloway Outdoor Adventure Team and the GA League Photographer, Darius and his family enjoy being part of the Georgia League both as competitors and volunteers. Darius believes the Georgia League is a great way to introduce kids to cycling and outdoor activities in the most positive way. He enjoys every minute he can spend on the MTB-trails, especially when he is out there with the Galloway Team. For him, the Georgia League offers the unique opportunity to enjoy Mountain Biking in a family and team environment.

As a father of four and seeing all of his children race in the Georgia League, it makes him proud that two of them would like to go beyond the GA League and continue their Mountain Biking career in college.  Darius’ background is Information Technology Consulting (Enterprise Application Architecture and Business Integration ). He earned his master’s degree in Germany.  You can view his GA League race pictures in the online Georgia League Photo Gallery.

Scott Vanek, Board Member:  Scott’s bio TBD

Jenna Salters, Board Member:  Jenna was a collegiate Cross Country & Track athlete at the University of Richmond before she found (and fell in love with) cycling. She entered the mountain biking world by putting her name in the lottery for the 2016 Leadville 100 Mountain Bike Race and got in! She loves to race her mountain bike all over the country (particularly Pisgah Forest, NC and Colorado), but more importantly loves the adventures, the physical and mental strength that mountain biking builds and the people you meet.

Her biggest regret is not finding mountain biking sooner, so she loves supporting the Georgia League and hopes to inspire more kids to ride bikes. Outside of riding, Jenna still enjoys running, is up for anything outdoors and loves to spend time with her new husband. Jenna is the Regional Marketing Manager for CLIF Bar & Co in Atlanta, GA.
