Who We Are
Founded in 2009, the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) develops interscholastic mountain biking programs for student-athletes across the United States.
Coach With NICA
NICA coaches are role models and teachers who are open to learning the best practices of youth mountain bike coaching and actively work to hone their leadership skills on and off the bike.

NICA is More Than Racing...
NICA began as a race organization. Over the years, NICA has expanded to be inclusive of many stories: from trail stewardship, to girls riding together, to adventure by bike, our programs showcase the depth of our community and initiatives.
Coach Education Program
The purpose of the NICA Coach Education Program is to deliver comprehensive training to NICA coaches that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to provide quality programming to NICA student-athletes. Quality coach education is the cornerstone to developing great youth coaches who can support the mission and vision of NICA.
NICA Social Media
Through mountain biking, participants develop a profound appreciation for the environment, evolving into stewards who actively work to preserve and protect it. 🌲
NICA doesn`t just cultivate athletes; it cultivates responsible citizens who understand the importance of environmental conservation. ♻️

Hey friends! 👋 Are any of you headed to seaotterclassic this week?! Want a chance to chat with the amazing haleyhuntersmith?! Check out this rad opportunity to connect with the trekbikes Driftless off-road pro! Haley will join us for two exclusive chats at the Trek Expo space. These small-group chats are open to NICA athletes and alumni! Space is limited, so register to attend - and bring your questions for Haley! Each half-hour chat starts at 10 AM and 11 AM sharp on Saturday and will be followed by a brief meet and greet and autograph session (don’t forget to bring something you’d like Haley to sign!)
Need inspiration/more reason to get stoked? Haley is a mountain biking and gravel dynamo. 🔥 In 2023, she won the 🇨🇦 Canadian XC Marathon national title and took second at the XC Marathon World Cup race in Snowshoe. Her first gravel race was Unbound Gravel in 2022, and she has fully embraced the discipline ever since, taking third on the 2023 lifetimegrandprix overall standings.
Haley is also completing her master’s degree in science and sports psychology at Queen’s University in Ontario 👩‍🎓 where she’s studying how physical activity – including off-road cycling – can aid child development. She’s racing for a greater purpose, showing how being a competitive athlete and building community through sports can go hand-in-hand. 🤝 We can’t wait to hear her story and learn more!

In May 2022, OutsideMagazine took a spin with the RichmondCyclingCorps, a mountain bike team within the Virginia Interscholastic Cycling League (VirginiaMTB), and a mountain bike racing team from the Virginia capital’s public housing system. Coaches taught young riders how to shred trails and prepare for adult life. The kids, meanwhile, measure happiness one pedal stroke at a time.🌟
